Your Questions About Running And Nutrition Diet http://bit.ly/vpkxFk

Betty asks…

Is all the talk about our nutrition used to distract us all from important issues today?

It seems all there is today is the talk about diets and nutrition and healthy lifestyles and exercise and the gym and yoga and meditation. Ad nauseum sometimes. New diet tricks etc. It keeps all of us sheep busy running and preparing decent meals and occupied with all that instead of our minds on more important issues like the economy, jobs, the national debt, etc.

admin answers:

It is another area of control. They feel we are not capable of making simple decisions in our lives and that they are so they decide what we can eat. Like San Francisco banning the happy meal toy..
It does keep us occupied..

William asks…

diet and sport nutrition?

what is a good pre marathon diet for a 14 year old girl running half a marathon and what are her nutritional requirements

admin answers:

Really depends on how much weight you need to lose for the marathon. Once you get down to your desired weight you need to carb load 1 week before the race to have plenty of glycogen stores for energy.

Maria asks…

My goal is more of a swimmer build, lean muscle, nice abs, you know the hot look and not beefy body builder, albeit I have no hate for them.

from 3:15-5:00 high school swim team practice

skinny, but I do have a little gut (my belly sticks out cus of fat, but not too much)
lacking in obviously muscle

Professor Emeritus T. Colin Campbell of Cornell completed a 30 year study of protein, diet and human health in rural China. This was funded by Cornell, Oxford, and the Chinese government. One conclusion was irrefutable evidence that dairy products encouraged the growth of pre-existing cancerous tumors.

There's no doubt the whey protein (derived from cow milk) will make your muscles grow very fast, in part because of natural and genetically modified bovine growth hormones. The down side is that you are undoubtedly shortening your life. The richly funded dairy association in the US misleads us all through mass media empires. Over 70% of the world population does not consume milk products, and the pure vegetarians (vegans) have lower rates of breast and prostate cancers as well as lower rates of heart disease and diabetes. These are huge differences, which are far greater than any benefit provided through surgical or drug interventions.

I strongly encourage you to make your own decision, however, be aware of the risks.

Donald asks…

I want to lose 10 lbs through diet and exercise. Can I reach my goal or will new muscle mass skew the result?

I currently weigh 130, and would like to get down to 120 in the next six months. I have already started adjusting my diet, focusing on good nutrition and eliminating junk foods. I have also started doing cardio work like running, biking, and swimming. I would like to incorporate some strength training to "tone up" , but I am afraid that in doing so I won't hit my goal of 120 due to increased muscle mass.

Can someone tell me how quickly muscle mass is put on? And, as you put on muscle mass, about how many pounds get added to the scale?

I would hate to set my sights on 120, only to discover I can't reach it through healthy means.

admin answers:

Aerobic excercise doesn't add much muscle and burns the most calories however any kind of weightlifting will add muscle mass. It would be easier whether to say its healthy or not if I new your height.

Charles asks…

Is this a good diet plan (some nutrition questions)?

So I started a diet recently and its been going pretty good. I want to know what you guys think of my plan... and I have a few questions too.

My questions are:

1) Is it bad to eat whole wheat bread? Because I heard that whole wheat is good but that bread is kind of bad because of a lot of carbs? Whole wheat has fiber which is good.

2) How much sodium should I eat per day? Because I eat some meats like lean turkey with my whole wheat bread and it has some sodium in it...I don't eat hot dog/pizzas/hamburgers/ketchup/mustard/etc...

3) Are peppers good for you? How good? Why are they good? I heard they speed up you metabolism.

4) And are eggs for breakfast with some whole wheat bread and lean turkey a good breakfast? Or maybe a little bit of cheerios w/ skim milk?

I go to the gym 3-5 times a week and don't workout the same muscles on consecutive days but I do run 20-25 minutes every time I go but I plan on reaching my goal of running for 30 minutes.

Thanks in advance.
When I say peppers I mean like jalapeños, red peppers, etc.
My goal is to lose weight while gaining muscle. I'm male, 6'0 tall, 175 lbs, and I'm drinking post-workout protein shakes...
I also eat plenty (2-6) of fruits per day... and when I eat lunch, I'll eat it with spinach and tomatoes.

admin answers:

1) Wholewheat bread is healthy. It has a lot of fibre and protein plus is low-gi. Yes, bread is carbohydrate but contrary to popular myth, this is not a bad thing. Low carb diets have been linked to heart disease so please do not worry about carbs. As long as you're sticking to things like brown bread, potatos, porridge etc and not cakes and biscuits, you're on the right track.

2) 6 grams of salt is the maximum we should eat per day. I'm very sorry I don't k know it in "sodium." From what you've described it doesn't sound like you have a problem with getting too much of this.

3) Yes. Spicy foods have been shown to help your digestion by stimulating the digestive enzymes. There's also some evidence that they may possibly raise your metabolsim too.

4) That's an excellent breakfast. Very well balanced. Adding a piece of fruit too would make it perfect.
